Imaginária Micaelense/ Religious Sculpture from St. Michaels island

A escultura/imaginária tem sido um tema pouco explorado na arte portuguesa, pelo simples facto de serem poucos os documentos que nos indiquem quem foram os seus autores, de onde provieram e até mesmo a que época histórica pertence.
No entanto o meu interesse na escultura, proveniente da minha formação, bem como a vontade de contribuir para um melhor conhecimento do património artístico micaelense, foram factores determinantes na escolha deste tema.
As invocações da Virgem Maria, são os temas da imaginária em estudo, sugestão da Prof. Drª Natália Marinho Ferreira-Alves, responsável pelo seminário para o qual foi realizado este estudo, sendo este o início do estudo/investigação sobre a imaginária micaelense.


The religious sculpture in portuguese art has been very little explored because of lack of documents that could identified the autors, where did the sculpture came from or even from what period of time is it.
My interest in sculpture, from my degree, as well as the will to contibute for a better knowledge of the art in St. Michaels island, were determinant factors for this study.
The diferent invocations of the Virgin Mary are the sculpture theme of this investigation work, sugested by Prof Drª Natália Marinho Ferreira-Alves, teacher of the seminar were this work was presented. This is the begining of my investigation in St. Michaels island religious sculpture.
