Pornography Art/ Arte pornográfica

edition of Ovid's "Ars amatoira" (Frankfurt: Kempffer 1644)
edição de "Ars amatoria" de Ovídeo (Frankfurt: Kemper 1644)

The representation of erotic behaviour in books, pictures, statues, motion pictures, etc., that is intended to cause sexual excitement. The word pornography, derived from the Greek porni (“prostitute”) and graphein (“to write”), was originally defined as any work of art or literature depicting the life of prostitutes.Little is known of the origins and earliest forms of pornography because it was customarily not thought worthy of transmission or preservation.
One of the first clear historical evidences of pornography in Western culture can be found in the salacious songs performed in ancient Greece at festivals honouring the god Dionysius. Indisputable evidence of graphic pornography in Roman culture is found at Pompeii, where erotic paintings dating from the 1st century AD cover walls sacred to bacchanalian orgies. A classic of written pornography is the Roman poet Ovid's Ars amatoria (Art of Love ), a treatise on the art of seduction, intrigue, and sensual arousal.

Trevor Brown, Penis Pixie

The word erotica typically applies to works in which the sexual elementis regarded as part of the larger aesthetic aspect. It is usually distinguished from pornography, which can also have literary merit but which is usually understood to have sexual arousal as its main purpose.

Artesanato vs Arte/ Handicraft vs Art

Rute Rosas, 10 anos depois.../ten years later... (1994-2004)

Handicrafts are increasingly being used by artists and designers as a source of inspiration and method of manufacture. Many crafts are experiencing resurgence in popularity; they are no longer the bastion of elderly ladies, but people from all ages and backgrounds. Punk knitting, origami with an agenda and epic cross-stitch have surged in numbers. In wake of the supposed death of local community, self-organised craft groups such as ‘Stitch and Bitch‘ have flourished in recent times. Customisation is also experiencing a renaissance. Technology, perceived to be removed and sophisticated, is being re-attached to the user by the democratic ‘anyone-can-make-and-do‘ accessories such as the knitted iPod cover or mobile phone pocket or diamante decoration. And although thrift-store chic is being co-opted by design firms and marketed back to the public, self organised groups of artists and makers are creating forums for people to do it for themselves. This is demonstrated by those at the peripheries of commercial regions, such as the Favelas of Brazil or the weaving centres of Kumasi famed for making Kente cloth in Ghana. Crafts are thriving in these places and represent a valuable cultural yet marketable contribution to the global economy. Often they reflect the modern technological world through the recycling of its detritus. Bowls are made from telephone wires, bicycles made from circuit boards and cans and coffins are carved in the shapes of Coca Cola bottles or cars. Making continues regardless of circumstance. Craft creates the connotation of the intimate and handmade. It implies working in hand-sized proportions, but many makers are experimenting with scale. Tiny techniques are blown up and new materials are employed to reinterpret traditional skills on a grand scale. Gestures become bold statements through expansion. In a countermotion, many makers are also refining their skills to make ever-smaller constructions. Echoing the developments in engineering and nano-technology, the facture of miniatures has proliferated. Objects and entire environments that could sit on the head of a pin test their makers.

Chemistry in art/ Química na arte

The neglect of chemistry by artists, curators, and art critics is quite surprising, because artists, like chemists, have always been personally engaged in combining, transforming, and experimenting with materials. The relation of art to chemistry is, in fact, the most overt among all the scientific disciplines. Indeed, since the late nineteenth century the industrial production of paints and other classical artistic materials has encouraged modern artists to experiment with evermore new and unusual materials. (For an encyclopedic survey see Wagner et al. 2002.) Moreover, as new, process-orientated art genres were established in the second half of the twentieth
century, chemical transformations became a central part of modern art. For instance, artists, like Yves Klein and Janis Kounellis, employed fire (the oxidation of combustible materials) either as artistic performances or as means for artistic production. Crossing the boundary between painting and photography, Sigmar Polke and Achim Duchow mixed their own photo emulsions to perform photochemical reactions on canvas and other media. Sometimes, as in César's Expansions of polyurethane, chemical reactions with polymers have been used to control the generation of sculptural forms. Chemical reactions (the qualitative transformation of materials) have been the subject of artistic and philosophical fascination ever since the early days of alchemy – so much that they have become an allegory of radical change and the dynamical essence of nature. Examples of this are the Arte Povera artist Gilberto Zorios, who staged chemical reactions in crucibles to elicit the flavor of the (al)chemical laboratory and evoke obvious allusions to hermetic philosophy; and artists like Joseph Beuys and Dieter Roth, who have deliberately used biochemical processes in their works, like the rotting of edible materials, to illustrate degeneration and decay.

Eu e as hormonas/ Me and the hormones

Louann Brizendine in O cérebro feminino

in wikipedia

"Hormones have the power to determine what the brain wants to do. They help guide the maternal, social and sexual behaviors, as well as the aggressiveness. They can influence in the propensity to speak, to flirt, to organize or to party, to write gratefulness tickets, to organize collective parties for children, tender manifestations and affection, the concern not to wound orthers feelings, the competitiveness, the masturbation and the sexual nature initiatives."

Louann Brizendine in The female brain

"Brizendine argues that the human female brain is affected by the following hormones: estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, (oxytocin), neurotransmitters (dopamine, serotonin) (...)"
"These hormones have a life cycle of their own defining specific passages in a women's life including, puberty, and menopause."
